Celebrating independent living in Sutherland
Mrs Ineke Nieuwlands, client at BCS Care Centre – South East Sydney, joined with local dignitaries on Friday 3 April to open the care centre, which has recently relocated to a new central location on the Old Prince’s Highway in Sutherland.
The Care Centre was officially opened by Member for Heathcote, Mr Paul McLeay MP and Mayor of Sutherland Shire Council, Clr Lorraine Kelly, with almost 50 guests in attendance.
During the ceremony, Mrs Nieuwlands, who cares for her husband, told of the kindness she receives from BCS staff who provide respite care, allowing her a much-needed break.
BCS Chief Executive Officer, Dr June Heinrich, spoke about the future of aged care, saying that at the heart of ageing in place is recognising that every older person has their own unique needs and expectations; and care providers should do all they can to ensure that clients can age with dignity, security and independence in whatever setting their “home” may take.
“More and more Australians will choose to age in their own homes over the coming decades and given this trend there is a need for on-going innovation in the aged-care sector,” said Dr Heinrich.
The Care Centre, managed by Su Middleton and a team of approximately 50 field and 9 support staff, offers domestic assistance, personal care and respite care in addition to CACP and EACH packages, as well as pastoral support from local Chaplain Rev Rob Silver.
