Meet Nancy King, BCS Shalom Centre

Tell us about your nursing background and when you started working with BCS?
I began working with BCS on 24 January 2000 and have always worked in nursing. I have a background in midwifery, paediatrics, orthopaedics and you guessed it, aged care.

Briefly describe your current role at BCS?
My present role at BCS involves overseeing the day-to-day care of thirty residents in Bennelong House, BCS Shalom Centre, and leading a team of four full-time nurses in their care role.

What do you most enjoy about your work at BCS?
I enjoy my colleagues and team members, as well as the challenging role I undertake daily. I like that I work for an organisation that is committed to providing on-going training and education for staff, so we can be better equipped to care for the clients... BCS has a well-earned reputation for excellence in care... every day has it challenges, but I enjoy that I can make a positive difference in our resident's lives.

What would you say to someone considering a career in aged care nursing or a related health discipline?
If you relish a challenge and want to give of yourself in the most fulfilling way possible, and meet wonderful people, consider nursing at BCS - where else would you go?
